Aesthetic product videos: how to make styled shots stop the scroll

Across 816 posts from 390 stores (24 Jun to 25 Sep 2026), posts that open on a styled packshot beat their store's typical post 46% of the time.

This week the styled packshot ranks #26 of 31 openings and trails a typical post. Lately it has been slipping. An aesthetic opening shows the product styled among props, or matched to an outfit or a room, with little action. It's the look most brands start with. It can sell a mood, but on its own it often gives viewers no reason to stop. Here's how to make it work harder.

What styled shots do well

Styled shots sell taste. For candles, decor, fashion and stationery, the look is part of what people buy, and a well-styled frame shows the product fits the life they want.

The risk is the first second. A beautiful still scene looks like a lot of other beautiful still scenes. Without movement or a moment of use, the eye slides past it, however good it looks.

The fix is small. Keep the styling and add one human action: a hand lighting the candle, someone picking up the bag, a page turning. The scene stays pretty, and now something is happening in it. If your styled shots are photos, turning them into short videos adds that movement without a reshoot.

How to make an aesthetic shot move

  1. Style a real scene, not a set. Use your own shelf, sofa or dressing table. Add two or three props your buyer would own, like books, flowers or a coffee cup.
  2. Add one action in the first second. A hand reaching in, steam rising, fabric moving. Motion is what stops the scroll.
  3. Match colours on purpose. Pick props that echo the product's colour or clearly contrast with it. Outfit and room matches work best when the match is obvious.
  4. Say why it fits. Add a short line that ties the look to a moment, like a slow Sunday, a first flat or a night in.
  5. Cut to the product in use. After the styled opening, show it doing its job. The pretty shot sets the mood, the use shot sells it.

Aesthetic video mistakes

  • No movement at all. A perfect still scene is easy to scroll past. Add a hand or a moment of use.
  • Styling that hides the product. If the props are more interesting than what you sell, viewers remember the props.
  • The same look as every other brand. Neutral linen and dried grass are everywhere. Use the colours and rooms your customers actually live with.
  • Leading every post with it. Mix styled shots with in-use and in-hand openings.

What is an aesthetic product video?

It's a video that shows a product in a styled, good-looking scene, often with matching props, soft light and calm music. It sells the mood as much as the product.

Why don't my aesthetic product videos get views?

Usually because nothing happens in the first second, so the scene reads as an ad. Add one action, like a hand picking the product up, and show it in use soon after.

Which products suit an aesthetic opening?

Products bought partly for their looks: candles, decor, fashion, jewelry, stationery and tableware. Even then, pair the styling with movement. This week this opening trails a typical post in our data from real store posts.

What should I open with instead?

Try hands on the product, a POV shot or the product where it lives. You can keep your styling in all three and add the movement a still scene lacks.
