TikTok and Reels hooks that work for online stores

Updated 2 Oct 2026. This week point of view is the strongest way to open a product video, beating a typical post 56% of the time. On TikTok, problem callout is the hook style gaining ground fastest. A hook is the first second of your video: the opening shot, the text on screen and the first words you say. Most lists of viral hooks are written for creators. These are written for stores, and ranked by how they do on real product posts. Start with the TikTok and Reels hooks you can copy, then see every opening and angle ranked. We track 31 openings across 31,217 posts.

// how we measure

How we measure a hook

Beat rate is the share of posts that got more reach per follower than the same shop's typical post on the same platform and in the same format. 50% is typical. This update uses 31,217 posts by 904 online stores, published 24 Jun 2026 to 25 Sep 2026.

The verdict only says above or below typical when the 90% range around the rate is clear of 50%.

// FAQ

TikTok and Reels hooks, answered.

Got another question? Email hello@xyla.ai.

What is a hook in a TikTok or Reel?

The hook is the first second or two of your video. It's the opening shot, the text on screen and the first words you say. If it doesn't give people a reason to stay, they scroll before they see your product.

What are the best TikTok hooks for products?

The best video hooks for products show the product early, in a real moment, and give one clear reason to keep watching. This week point of view leads all openings, and one use case is the strongest angle. Every line in the library above is free to copy. Swap in your product and your buyer's words so it sounds like you.

How long should a hook be?

Short enough to land before someone decides to scroll, which is about a second on TikTok and Reels. Show the product in the first frame and keep any on-screen line short enough to read twice. The next few seconds can then explain or show more.

What makes a hook go viral?

No hook guarantees views. Hooks that travel tend to name a moment people know, show something they want to see finished and make the viewer the main character. For a store, a hook that gets views but hides the product rarely sells, so we rank hooks by how often they beat a store's own typical post instead.

Do the same hooks work on TikTok and Instagram Reels?

Mostly, yes. The same opening often works on both, but results differ by platform. Group pages show a platform split whenever we have enough posts to measure one, and the Reels guide ranks openings on Instagram alone.

How do you measure which hooks work?

We compare each post with the same store's typical post on the same platform and format, then count how often posts with that hook beat it. A group only appears once enough stores and posts use it. This week's rankings draw on 31,217 posts from 904 stores. The methodology page has the full detail.

How often is this updated?

Every week. We rebuild the rankings every Monday from the latest posts, so the numbers, the trending styles and the list of what changed are always current. Older posts age out, so the rankings reflect what works now. Last updated 2 Oct 2026.
